Recording Gunshots

Hello, I'm looking for a way to record gunshots, a friend of mine suggested a dynamic mic with a nice compressor amp, one to protect my more expensive shotgun from the loudness, and two because It'd record the sounds better. What are your thoughts? Any recommendations?

dynamics are good for close range , you can work with condensers in the same time placing them at least 10-15 meters forward for more open sound if you recording outside
