I will be video recording a local drama theatre performance soon. This will be my first year shooting in HD. Camcorder is a Canon HF10, (for low light scenes I may also use a Canon T2i), audio will be separate on Zoom H4n, editing software is Sony Vegas Pro 10, Burning software either direct from Vegas or via DVD Architect 5.2, computer is E8400 processor, 2Gb Ram, Windows XP 32 bit. I plan to burn to both Bluray and DVD.
My understanding is that Bluray I can burn to 24p, 30i, 60i, whereas DVD is 30p. What would be the best format to record on the Canon HF10, the options are 60i, 30p or 24p, the Canon info states that these are actually recorded as 60i, I’m not sure how that works. (Actually both Canon HF10 and T2i 24p is 23.976 and 30p is 29.97, on HF10 60i is 59.94).
What would be the best format to record in for subsequently highest quality of final output on both Bluray and DVD? And consequently what would be the best format to burn to Bluray, 24p or 30i or 60i? I’ve tried searching but cann’t find any answer as to whether there are settings that are best for outputting to both Bluray and DVD, so if the correct answer is that whatever I do will compromise for either Bluray or DVD that info would also be helpful. Thanks in advancefor any advice.
