Recording directly through FCP?

I shot some stuff for a short film on the DVX100 earlier this month, and instead of using tape, my friend offered to record through firewire 800 directly to the harddrive of his macbook pro.

Well, I didn't really think about it at the time, but I'm not sure if he knew exactly what he was doing!

The footage looks fine. I shot in 24pA but he did in fact capture at 29.97. The only thing was he did it directly through without removing advanced pulldown while he was capturing. We removed it afterwards.

Anyway, I'm not in front of a computer where I can test it, but how does the set uo work exactly? Is it like capturing through tape? Were there any other special settings we should have set up? Or is the 29.97 setting the only thing I should have worried about?

*While it LOOKS fine, I just want to avoid problems down the road. I intend to check my friends computer next week after my question is answered here. Thanks.

You can't shoot 24pA with that method. Stick with tape- that's what the camera is best it.

Wait, what? I had it set on 24pA. What did it record, then? I removed pulldown and everything, and it looks as good as the other footage. Is it technically lower quality or something now?

EDIT: By the way Noah, I have been looking at the FAQs and Apple's site, but every time I think I understand 24p workflow, I turn to another dead end. I do appreciate the help with this stuff, and I'm just trying to do things correctly before disaster hits.
