Recording Dialogue With a Leather Couch

I will be shooting short film on Sunday where the two main characters are talking to each other while sitting on two different leather couches. Besides telling the actors not to move is there anything I can do to muffle the sound of people moving on a leather couch? Blankets, planks of wood? I don't need to complete eliminate the sound just keep it from overpowering the voices.

Are you stuck with using those couches? It's a freakin' nightmare no matter what you do. (I once had to do a dialog edit on a scene where the actors wore leather pants while sitting on a leather couch. Talk about a nightmare...) Even if you cover them with blankets you still get a lot of noise. The problem is that mics pick up sounds much differently than your ears do, and recorders don't ignore sounds like your brain would.

Make sure that they wear "soft" clothes, don't move while they speak (as you mentioned) and maybe try micing from underneath.

I have a feeling that I will be moving couches this weekend. Something my back and I both hoped to avoid.
