Recording Audio from other sources.

I do not plan to create an audio library, per se. But what I want to do is record some audio from a couple pc video games I have. Specifically Amercias Army and Battlefield 1942's Desert Combat mod. The reason is, is that they have accurate sound in terms of weapons and vehicles.

I want to put together and experiment (also for fun) some combat style clips and I would like to pull some of these spund bytes from my PC.

What is the best way to record these? Picture this:

I can pull out an M-16 or M203 and control exactly how I want to fire the weapon. How can I:

a. Record the audio (as to have access in POST)
b. Put it into POST (DUB when doing POSt audio effects)

Re: Recording Audio from other sources.

The easiest way would be just hook your computer's audio out jacks straight into a dat recorder or the like.... record your sfx... then capture them back into your computer as audio files (pro tools, soundforge, cool edit pro, etc).

Re: Recording Audio from other sources.

Thanks Kai.!! I knew there was a way, but didnt know how! So, youre thinking DAT and keep em in computer as .wav files? or mp3's?

Re: Recording Audio from other sources.

I haven't done it, but knowing that there are all kind of mods out there for these games, there's probably an extract program out there were you could extract the sound files directly. There might be some copyright issues, but they'd also exist if recording via DAT or what have you.

Maybe search bluesnews.com. I just did a quick search and found this link, not sure if it'll extract sounds but worth a look:

Tks Sir Allen

A mod dev kit sounds like a good start for audio files.

Re: Recording Audio from other sources.

That's one way... I know in Medal Of Honor for the mac, i've gone into the files and pulled out sound effect files... granted not all games will have something as simple as a folder full of the sfx, but it's worth a look-see.

Re: Recording Audio from other sources.

I want to put together a BHD style scene.

Complete with:

The look
The sound
The music
effects

God forbid I do something small and cute.
