RECORDING AUDIO FOR SHORTS...

Those of you that have shot SHORTS or COMMERCIALS, etc. Did you run your audio right into your camera or do you have routed to something else? If by chance you record onto say a DAT or Minidisc how do you sync it up in Post to match the video?

Re: RECORDING AUDIO FOR SHORTS...

I see very little advantage to recording to DAT or Minidisc when shooting with the DVX. For a sub $4k video camera the DVX's audio is quite good, better in fact than what I have gotten from the Xl1 and PD150, and pretty much the same I have gotten from the $20k+ SDX900. For most users of this board, there is no need to get anything better for audio. I've hired pro sound people who mix right into my DVX100 with a tape return and the sound is great!

Most DAT's are not going to give you that much better quality, and to me MiniDisc are often out of the question because most don't even have XLR inputs. Furthermore you have to sync your audio in post and that's a pain!

I think for the most part people think you use record to DAT because the big boys do it, but the big boys are shooting 35mm film and you can't record sound to 35mm film!

If you do decide to record to DAT or another source, for some reason or another, you just simply slate everything with a visual and audible slate.
