Recording audio for [not in the scene] interview(er)

So, I'm doing a mockumentary, and the cast member that was playing the interviewer (Jeff- role name not actor's name) can't come down to Los Angeles to do all the interview scenes.

I was going to recast, until I got an idea.

I am thinking that I am going to record him saying his lines and just play them back in the interview scenes.

Only, I don't know how to quite do this.

I want to record him on both the MP3 Recorder (I'm cheap, I know) and a regular recorder (since I'm going to put in his lines post) so I can at least have a seperate recording when the actual interviews are filmed.

Am I making things too hard?

you dont need it at all , you can ask the questions and later replace it with the actors voice , just keep the answares doesnt overlap the question

If you're doing it that way keep in mind that the questions must not sound like they were recorded in a speaker's cabin. Record them in a room similar to the one where the interview takes place and maybe record the ambience of your interview room and mix it with the questions.
