Record directly to PC?

Actually, the BEST way to do it is with Adobe OnLocation.

Otherwise, most NLEs allow live capture through firewire.
 
I can't use Adobe Onlocation b/c I have the CS2 suite. Would the firewire route yield good results?

I do the same in Vegas all the time for my animation, it can be quite a time saver, plus very convenient to see exactly what you're capturing as you film it, instead of worrying whether your camera view finder is showing you the true edges of the frame.

Some people like to record to tape at the same time, just as a backup - depends how paranoid you are.

So, set the DV control to EXT for computer recording only, and BOTH for recording to PC and tape, right?

I think I'd do both for safety purposes.

What DV Control and DV CMD SEL settings do you use?
