Reconnect bug in FCP 5.0.4?

Hi. I'm using FCP 5.0.4, and I'm having a media reconnect problem. I captured some footage for a project and then, after I captured it (in a single clip), I renamed the Capture Scratch subfolder for that project, because I had an organizational nightmare/mess I was trying to fix. I thought that, when I reopened the project, I could just reconnect the clip to the original media file in the newly renamed folder. But when I use the "Locate" button in the reconnect dialog box to find the original file in the renamed folder and then click "Choose" to choose the file, FCP returns me to the previous dialog box and does not show the file selected -- and therefore does not allow me to reconnect the file. Only the Cancel button is highlighted at this point.

Anyone know what's up with this? I can get around the problem by renaming the Capture Scratch subfolder using the original folder name, but I really would like to use the new name. Can anybody help? Or am I just hosed here?

Many thanks -- Rumi Girl

have you tried UNchecking the box named "Matching name only" (or whatever it is exactly, I'm at my PC now)?

Thanks for responding, Dougspice. In answer to your question, yes. I unchecked "matching name only" (or whatever the text says), but that isn't the problem. I can locate the file just fine (or FCP can). It just can't use it! It seems so bizarre to me. I've used many different strategies to try to reconnect the file -- for example, telling FCP to "forget" the "missing" file when I first open the project and then trying to reconnect using the explicit reconnect command -- but nothing works.

have you tried interacting with the file itself in the file system? Renaming it to something else, or moving it to another folder, and trying to import it from there. Lord knows I've run into my share of glitches in FCP, so I have sympathy. Unfortunately I don't have any ideas beyond these.

Rumigirl, please write back and let us know if that works for you. I had a similar problem and couldn't find a work around. Next time I'll try this too. So let us know.
Thanks
