Recommended Tripod Heads

I would like to get a good quality head for doing pans and whatever I might need to do in the future (not entirely sure right now), though it will mainly include interviews, instructional videos and mini documentaries. I will be using the HVX with a Miller and a Manfrotto Tripod.

1. Are heads specific to tripods, or can the same head be used with both of these tripods I mentioned?
2. Can anyone recommend a good head for $3k or less.

bogen manfrotto makes good head any where from the 503 to the 519. not sure if you interchange. most likely not since they are different brands im guessing.
 
You would really benefit from searching this forum. This topic has been covered MANY times, There is even a thread dedicated "Official Tripod Thread"
