Recommended monitors

I want to purchase a studio monitor for editing video from the HVX and also get a filed monitor for connecting to the HVX during shoots.

My company is willing to spend up to $3k per monitor. I would like the field monitor to be 15 inches or less.

What would you recommend?

Thanks.

well, in terms of field monitor I know the Marshall 7" is a solid choice, Im unsure if there are larger ones available.

You are going to pay a lot for a 15ish-inch HD feild monitor with all the right fetures. The ones we use are about £8-15,000 all cased up with batterys etc.

Theres nothing to stop you buying an HDtv and cracking the case off and re-housing it though.

Panasonic make a very neat 8inch LCD which accepts every input going and can be powered off a vlock battery.

The Panasonic 1700 series are amazing monitors. I have the 1700w and the BTLH80 is on its way. I've used the BTLH900 and 1700w on about a dozen shows and they are absolutely the new industry standard for HD monitoring.

The Carrion is getting some good reviews at about 1/2 the price of the BTLH80/U. Less features, but packed with good stuff considering the pricepoint.

if you're on a mac go 23" cinema display ( i bought mine used, like new for $500) and a matrox mxo ($995), should you need to do color grading as well.

I have a mac 23" monitor which I use for editing high def footage, but I don't know a way to use it as a field monitor...... I called apple to see if it's possible and they said it doesn't have the right type of connectors..... have you fojnd a way to do it? Or do you mean that you're using it as an in studio editing monitor?

I already tried that, you need a converter box. I was hoping you could buy a £2.99 adapter plug but unfortunatly you need a signal converer which is quite expensive. The apple display is not really cut out for feild work anyway.

Samsung do a really nice computer monitor (not TV, so its good quality) with HD component, HDMI, composite, DVI VGA anda few others. They only draw about 50w so you can power it off a 12v attery with an inverter, or if your brave and have a large axe to hand, you can crack the case off and just give it regulated 12v power straight to the main board, as the internal transformer cuts it down to 12v dc anyway.
