Just wondering whats the recommended manfrotto tripod/head for a canon 5d MK III with a dslr cinema rig. If possible linking the B&H link to it would be great. Cheers!

Want me to pay for it, too?

I see you're from Halifax. My grandfather stayed there at a hospital for a month with his wife in 1913 on their way from Rotterdam to Ellis Island because his appendix had burst.

Anyway, a 701HDV will be all right. Some folks say the 501 is better; others that it's bigger but the same.

Do you want a fluid head?

Halifax is a wonderful city, glad your grandfather was ok and that he got a chance to be in the city! :)

701HDV is too weak for a FF DSLR + Lens + Cinema Rig, it's only rated for around 4-5lbs. 501 or 503 would work though, thanks! Still wondering about the manfrotto tripod, anyone have any further recommendations?

We use the 504HD/536B combo with various fully rigged Canon DSLRs and it has handled them very well so far. My only complaint is the spreader on the legs which seems to be the weak link of the system, but other than that it's a good combination.

You can check a full review of the kit on my YouTube channel in you are interested.

Cheers

I don't know what your budget is or how much your rig weighs but if you haven't seen this thread, it's worth reading.

If your rig weighs more than 8.8 lbs., then yes, the 701HDV will not be enough.

When I used a DVX, I put it on a Davis-Sanford tripod+fluid head similar to the 207A in that thread. Strong, heavy, smooth, and cheap.

How heavy is your rig? Tripods are priced in weight classes. I see TONS of people buying Manfrotto. I would spend a couple extra dollars and get a Sachtler or Vinten.

The Miller Solo line are very solid and probably the most affordable higher quality tripods available. The DV20 is a good start.
