Guys & Gals;

I am trying to decide what system I need to put together (or buy from Alienware), that would be good for post editing.

I did a search but only came up with old posts?

Anyone got a list of PC compnents req.'s, I would appreciate the help!

I am really thinking of building it myself - so as to save some money - maybe buy the stuff from Fry's unless the difference doesn't amount to much.

Toss in your input.

thanks,
Naeem

Almost any mid to high end PC can edit DV video these days. Get as good of a computer as you can afford. But honestly, a $1200.00 PC will do a great job editing video for you. If you are looking to save money, I would go with an Athlon XP processor, but don't skimp on the RAM. Get at least a Gig. Stick two seperate Hard Drives in there, one for your programs and OS and the other for your media. They should be at least 7200 RPM with an 8MB Buffer. Most midrange video cards can support dual monitors, so try to find one that does. And, of course you'll need firewire. Round out your low cost package with a DVD-Burner...they only run about 50 bucks these days. You should be able to get all this for $1200.00 or less. But of course, if you can afford more, get more. Peace.

Go check out New egg.com if you are looking to build yourself. You really can't beat their prices and their willingness to work with you to help you build the best computer you can, for your needs and your cash.

Also, zipzoomfly.com. Great prices, great selection, free two-day delivery on most items.

Building a new machine can be quite rewarding. It's like Thirteen Productions -- I made this! It will be exactly the way you want it, and what you learn by doing it is invaluable. Not to mention the cost savings, which can be exceptional.

tigerdirect.com is good. Good prices, and they can even build a pc for you to your specifications. Peace.

thx for the tips folks.

thisiswells, I've built systems before...it ain't that much of a big deal if you know what you're doing.

just trying to figure out, if the cost savings are substantial enough to build or buy.

sounds like building might be an option..am looking into this now..

thx.
