Recommended Consumer Camera for use as deck?

Hi All,

I read a few posts saying a consumer camera used as a deck is a viable option. I'd like to do this but was wondering if anyone can recommend a specific camera that has good results.

Should I get a Pany consumer cam for compatability? Or will other brands read the DVX signal from the tape OK?

I'd like to get a quality camera for use as a 2nd camera as well.

Any suggestions will be taken with gratitude.

Thanks!!!

any miniDV camera will do...

I'd go with the least expensive cam you can find for a deck... If/When the camera breaks, you just get a new one. (a $400 miniDV cam doesn't necessarily outlast a $200 one). I said 'if' because I have used a Sony trv22 for about four years and that thing is still going strong, works great. I am just hoping that when that breaks, I will be making the move to a tapeless workflow (it'll be a few years).

Are you using that sony as a tape deck for a dvx100?
cause I have a sony mini dv and am thinking of doing the same

yup... i shot with the DVX100B yesterday and captured with the sony last night...

but i've kept the same tape brand in both throughout.
