Recommendations on Camera?

Hey All,

I’m putting together a small AV studio and need some recommendations on what camera I should be considering. All the work I’m doing now is 1280x720 Progressive scan. I assume there are cameras that shoot in this format. I’d love to hear your recommendations. Thanks –

This site offers information on many cameras and you are encouraged to investigate those options fully. However, you will undoubtedly get recommendations for some of Panasonic's cameras (hey this is dvxuser.com!).

Tell us more about the type of work you do so that we can try to recommend something that will work well for you.

Hey All,

Yes, I of course have been looking at the HVX200. I'm trying to keep it under $5k. I work in the Video Game industry and do a lot of HD footage grabbed straigtht from the PC or console system dejur. All of that footage is 1280x720 progressive. Then I've got footage I need to get of the developers talking about the project (Talking heads stuff). I've been using just a standard DV cam for this, and would like to bump the quality up to match the game footage (Basically get everything running in 1280x720 progressive).

Hope that helps with the recommendations. Thanks :)

Well I cant say a bad thing about the HVX for interviews like you are talking about but with a budget of 5000 thats really close. Are you going to need lights and audio gear too? A tripod? All of those things add up fast. You'll also need p2 cards, something to offload p2 cards with (an older windows laptop is a great solution on a budget). That said there are quite a few hvx200's popping up at great prices on the used market with the 200a out now.

I'd definitely consider the Canon xh-a1 (or is there a new one out? I'm not up on the canons) though too. I'm always seeing great images come out of it from users here on the forums. Its tape based and thats a drag, but its a great deal for the price in my mind.

Considering the budget the XHA1 may be a better camera.

Even if the HVX200 has some advantages.

I would own both if had the money. :)

Hey Thanks! That XHA1 looks like a good solution. MovieSwede, you mention the HVX has some advantages. Can you point out a few?
