Recommendations for PC system for Premiere

I've just purchased Premiere and After Effects - already own Audition. Any recommendations for a new dedicated PC system for editing only?

I switched from Intel a while back and I'm pretty stoked on the results. I'm running the AMD X2 4800+ (939 Socket) on an Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe mobo with 4 gb of OCZ ram and the render times are really fast! There are many advantages of going with a dual-core proc, but for me being able to encode projects with Sorenson Squeeze in the background while having both PPRO and AE open and working on a project was key..

Eventually you will want to think about running a RAID setup and even thought the Asus mobo comes with an onboard RAID controller (which I wouldn't use it) For $500/600 you can get yourself a nice 8 port RAID controller and with another $500-800 load up on some 400gb drives.

What sort of budget are you working with? If you have an existing case and power supply you can pick up a prebuilt mobo combo and just swap out the guts of your machine.

To give you some ideas on how my setup compares to other machines, check out my times on this benchmark: http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies-archive.cfm/373568.html#r6370332 Granted this is just one of many tests you can do, but it will give a good reference point.

I just made a machine for editing with Premiere:

Athlon X2 3800
Asus A8N-SLI Premium
320Gb system drive
2x 320 Raid 0

I used the mobo's onboard raid features, but if you have the money, I also recommend getting a dedicated hardware raid card. I've also been hearing great things about the new Intel conroe core- the Core 2 Duo.

Thanks for the responses. I'm looking to spend between $3,000 and $4,500. Right now my preference is to go with a dual core system with large RAID 0, 4 gigs of RAM. The only question in my mind right now is what the best video card (s) would be.

No problem ... I have Premiere 2.0 and use a Firestore FS-4 Pro to capture my video - acts like a seperate hard drive - no problems with capture.

Regards,

Mike
