i am thinking of buying a new Intel Mac with FCP but am concerned about such a system's ability to provide the flexibility we need in import/export. i have been researching a number of additional programs in hopes of supplementing FCP (including Windows programs) but have not yet found anything satisfactory. our budget is approx $5000 for hardware and software. any suggestions?
our needs:
1. flexible import/export/conversion - files will come and go almost exclusively from/to PC users with basic desktop setups and limited technical knowledge of digital video (not editors etc). i.e we must make it easy for them!
2. basic (but precise) editing
3. reliable bidirectional analog-to-DV conversion (pref external)
4. ability to convert Avid Xpress DV native files (OMFI files)
