Recommendation to upgrade lav of a sony UWP kit

No, my main rig is a PSC Alphamix, with direct channel outputs to a Tascam DR-680. Last weekend I needed 4 lav + 2 overheads and ended up routing the G3s directly to the DR-680 into channels 1-4, then used my Alphamix for the two overhead mics, panned each hard left and right, and then took the main left and right outputs from the Alphamix to channels 5 and 6 of the DR-680. The only downside was that I had to use the 680 for all the monitoring, but the 680's monitoring capabilities are quite good, the only downside I found was that soloing a channel required about a 2 second long button press, and when you're used to instantaneous solo buttons, it took some getting used to.

My very first rig was a Sennheiser ME-80/K3, Gitzo boom pole and softie, fed directly into a Tascam DR-100. The same gain problems as with the H4n, but acceptable dialog levels were possible with proper boom placement (approx. 18" from talent). I first added the Alphamix and a channel at a time of G3, stopping at 3 (I borrowed a 4th for the shoot described above), and finally added the 680. The Alphamix will soon be on the used market as I'm considering either the 8 channel Zaxcom Nomad (and sell the 680), or a used Sound Devices 442 and Mix-Pre (I want limiters on all the channels, rather than just on the main outputs). The DR-680 has channel limiters but are a little hard compared to the Sound Devices.

FYI, each piece of equipment purchased was bought with money made doing location sound work.

gpforet,

do you use a H4n to record your sound?

I am thinking that it could be the problem for me.

Alright, so I sold my UWP system and bought a sennheiser G3. Problem solved and I like the senny much better...
