I'm finding that the 60 minute tapes are not enough for the longer events I'm shooting. Anyone have a recommendation for an external firewire recording device that would connect to the DVX100B for field work? Battery powered would be nice.
If you just want to record, the Firestore would probably be a good option. I've used an nNovia QuickCapture, and it's mostly fine -- but it has some quirks that can really ruin a shot if you're not careful. Bugs that have never been fixed, really.
I'm moving on now to DV Rack, and while it's less portable, it gives you so much more info than you'd get any other way. Really worth looking at if you shoot things that can't be redone and have to come out right the first time, like documentaries.
