Recommendation for 1K lights

Hello,

I currently am using these LitePanels (1x1): http://www.adorama.com/LPALP1FFP.html as well as a standard ARRI Tungsten kit (150/350/650). I'm looking to add one or two 1k lights to the package to brighten up some larger spaces - pretty limited with a 650W max right now. Recommendations on a kit or non-tungsten alternative?

I have daylight color cards for the LitePanels so color matching is not an issue.

Thanks so much!
Scott

If you just need to flood a larger area, a Tota light would be a low cost way to do so, as it can take a 1K lamp.

Otherwise used Mole or Arri Fresnel.

I really am not a fan of the totas. Not the best build, they get very very hot, and pretty difficult to gel.

I'd go for some par cans, for brand new ones under 50 a piece you really can't go wrong.

I second the vote for PAR cans. I have a set of PAR 64 cans, with 1000 watt bulbs in them. If you are looking for lights with "Punch", PAR 64 cans really can't be beat for the price.

I bought this set:

You can adapt them to stands with a TVMP adaptor. I recommend the Avenger E390, like this:

There are a variety of bulbs available, but I like the 1000 watt medium flood:

The medium flood has a smoother beam pattern than the narrow spot bulbs, I have found. I have done my own photometric testing of the lights and with the 1000 watt medium flood bulb, I was able to measure 15 footcandles (F2.0 at ISO 500) at FIFTY FEET! Off of a bounce board, I was able to measure 5 footcandles (F1.4 at ISO 500) at TWENTY FEET!

"to brighten up some larger spaces -"
Are the '1K' supposed to balance to the LED's you have? If so you'll simply have to gel Incans with FULL CTB or go HMI. I routinely gel my Lowel V lights, which I love for flooding large spaces or bouncing in tight rooms etc. 1K is a spot generally. Lighter and more elegant than Tota's

Do you know of / own any barn doors that match the ears on those?

No. I don't know of any barn doors for those. They come with slide in gel frames that you can shape some black wrap in. To shape these you would need to use some black wrap or flags. I have some light weight black foam core, from an art store that works great for that.
