recommend mic for iphone 4s?

anyone care to recommend a quality plug in microphone for the iphone 4s?

it can be an omni or cardioid.

i would even be interested in a lav.

any and all thoughts would be great.

Looks like you are in NYC. So why don't pay a visit to B&H or give them a call?

At least one of their salespeople seemed to know quite a bit about this kind of stuff. To me, a dedicated gadget seems too expensive than necessary. But given a more general purpose mic, I would rather use the mic with a serious recorder. And if I'm not serious enough, I'd just use the built-in mic.
 
Well, there _is_ a middle-ground. That would be something decent for the device the OP has. I would look into the Blue Mikey 2.0, and the free Bluefire app that goes along with it. There is also a more pricey version with various bells and whistles. The whole thing for under $200, if I'm not mistaken.I have this set-up for my iPod Touch. It is great as a back-up/budget field recorder.GJ

Here is another option. If you get an Apple Camera Connection kit and a powered USB hub, you can use many different USB microphones, I have tried it with the AT 2020 and hope to try it with a Blue Yeti.
