I've got $1000 budget for a second dv camcorder. Can someone recommend one that will be good to complement an xl1 or dvx100a? I'd like to get something that will allow for quality sound recording.

best,

If you want quality sound recording, it would likely be best to invest the $1,000 into a good microphone, and pass it through XLR to either your DVX or XL2. I'd think it's a safe bet to assume that no $1,000 camcorder will have XLR inputs, or a built-in mic worth anything...

Makes senes. But if I'm running sound into the xl1 or the dvx, I guess I can use that track for sound. If the 1000 dollar camera is being used for just visuals (2 camera setup--wide master and handheld), can you recommend one for just picture?

thanks,
j

The gs400 is amazing. In well lit conditions, it beats out the dvx100, IMO. Bigger zoom lens so it's good for getting the close ups. Should be availible for between 1000 and 1500 dollars. Sound inputs, obviously, suck. At least compared with the dvx.
