recent Swedish movies

You should read the LTROI novel. It's amazing, and far exceeds the film. And I love the film.

I wasn't too big on the TGWTDT.

***SPOILER***
The last 30 minutes has no antagonist.
***END SPOILER

I personally loved all four. The Millenium trilogy was actually a Swedish television mini series if I remember right....one that could never be aired here unfortunately. I was a little leary of Let Me In when it came out, but was relieved that it was basically it's own thing, and ended up being executed nicely. I got to hand it to the swedes though...they make some damn fine cinema. The thing I think I liked most about LTROI was the static cinematography....kind of Bergmanesque...made the focus for me on the characters performances which was a nice change.

Actually the first film in the trilogy was made for a theatrical release. The second two (directed by LTROI's Tomas Alfredson's brother Daniel who is also a very good director) were originally meant to be shown on TV, but the after the national success of the first film the other two went up theatrically as well.

Other that that, the model of doing the first in the series for theaters and the others for television is very common in Sweden.

Good to know. I would be curious for some leads on other Swedish films if you have any to suggest.

There was another thread very recently that I promised to do exactly that but I don't remember if I did. Wrapping up post production on MARIANNE has been a marathon race.

Other, IMO much, much greater Swedish films than the Millennium trilogy:
(these are the original titles, you may have to look them up on IMDb)

Adam & Eva
Fyra Nyanser av Brunt
Torsk På Tallinn
Mitt Liv Som Hund
I Rymden Finns Inga Känslor
Himlen Är Oskyldigt Blå
Jägarna
Smala Sussie

That should get you started.
