Recent No Budget/Ultra Low Budget Movies That Launched Director's Careers? [List]

Any new stories of no budget/ultra low budget movies shot on modern HD gear that led to a director eventually getting a large budget movie off the ground with celebrities attached?
 
I think Shane Carruth ( Mr. "Upstream Color" ) could have gone this route, but he's doing his own thing instead. I don't think he wants to be owned by anyone.
 
I suppose Alive in Joburg counts, though I don't think it was shot on "modern HD gear." It would have been much cheaper than that.
 
Anything "recent" in this business will have to be 2012 or later, after the major boom in DSLR movies really got started.
My film was finished in 2011, so I was still relatively early. 2-3 years later it's three times as hard to get into festivals and find distribution because that's how many more films you're competing against.
