Receiver Output Level to DVX??

I just purchased a Sennheiser G2 wireless mic package. When setting the output level of the Sennheiser receiver, should it be "mic" level (with DVX input at "mic"), or should it be at "line" level (with DVX input at "line")? When tweaking this adjustment, should I have the audio level knobs on the dvx set to about the middle and adjust Sennheiser receiver output until audio just peaks into red region (on level meters in dvx screen)? Thanks much!

Line to Line or Mic to Mic .. either works. I haven't used the G2 so I don't know what it's outputs are like, (XLR? - I'd be interested in knowing) but setting things to center and tweaking from there sounds like a good place to start.

I haven't taken delivery of the G2 yet, but I think the output of the receiver is mini plug to XLR. I know I can set the output of the receiver to either a mic or line level, so I was just wondering which would be better (since the dvx can be set to either) in terms of maximizing S/N

So the G2 is a balanced out but they use a (stereo / balanced) mini plug to save space but supply a mini to xlr cable to adapt it to a standard xlr? I was wondering because on the net I cannot find a picture of the bottom of the thing ...

I was always taught "inputs high -- master low" -- of course some inputs are noisier than others ... but as a rule -- if you need more level then first adjust your input (this case being the wireless reciever's level 'out' to the dvx xlr input) before you adjust the cam's input level.

Anyone confirm this ? I think I also read this in a Shure mixer manual for the FP-33.

What's better for longer runs ? I forget -- mic or line level ? which is more/less susceptible to ground hum/rf interference ?

If the G2 is like the G1, it will come with mini-mini and mini-male XLR locking cables. The out on the receiver is mini. I don't run it into the camera, so I can't offer suggestions on how to run it into the camera. I run it XLR into my mixer and it works well.

Yes, it is mini out on the receiver, and xlr into the dvx. I tried line level into the dvx, and that worked fine, although I did not yet compare with mic level into the dvx. The G2 will do line or mic output from the receiver.

I thought I had read recently that it is better to use a line feed into the camera rather than a mic feed (in order to improve S/N), but I can't seem to find where I read it??

For long cable runs line level is better. Mic level is very weak and is extremely susceptilbe to noise. That being said, I am 90 percent certain that the pre-amps in the DVX are far superior to the amps in the g2-100. So you will get a better signal if you run it into DVX at mic level (assuming your cable run to camera is a couple feet and not lying on some power cables).

Also, I believe the g2-100 does not send out a balanced signal. With the first Evo series you needed the 500 series for balanced output.

Best o luck

Yeah, I have the early Senny series and the output is NOT balanced. I use the mini-male XLR locking cable and just had an engineer turn the XLR into a right-angle XLR connector and he commented that it was unbalanced.
