Reason Why Some Shows are on itunes and not others?

Why is it that Itunes only makes some shows available from a particular network? I'm assuming that it's because each show's producers make their own individual decisions. But are there people out there who are just against digital TV downloads? It's quite clear that's where we're heading. Why fight it?

Apple negotiates with networks. Networks own shows, not the folks who make them. There are season release timing issues, digital copyright issues, money issues. It's not one single thing. Every network is free to negotiate with Apple as to what gets put on iTunes.

And yes, there are those producers out there who do not want their shows downloaded. But they're few. Notice that new shows are being added to iTunes all the time. Notice the majority show up between seasons. Timing in marketing means a lot.

It's complicated, but it's up to the network execs, not the shows producers, although they do have some voice in it.

Networks may "own" the shows, but there are still contracts involved. A lot of times, just for the music rights, but also involving the actors' residuals.

So, no, a network can't just willy-nilly let the shows out of the barn.
