realtime

Hi, I have Vegas 7. How do you do realtime sound editing, like in protools? Say in one continuous take, I want to turn down the volume of this at this moment, and pan that to the other side at another moment, and add compression to just this part, etc.? So that when it's played those marks will be hit at exactly those moments? Or do I have to do all this in protools (how would I do that, btw?).

And while I'm on the subject, will a little bit of compression make the audio better? I'm probably going to be split between recording in one channel on the dvx and then when available, thru a mixer into both channels of the dvx. Obviously there's going to be a difference in the sound in post, so how would I go about making it as uniform as possible?

Sorry, I'm sure none of this makes sense, it's 4:30am and I haven't slept yet. Thanks so much in advance for those who decide to help an idiot! :)

1) Volume and panning envelopes on the audio track.

2) The compressor in the track FX, keyframed on the timeline in the FX editor.

3) Whether or not a compressor helps depends on the sound you have and the sound you want.

4) Unless you're trying to record stereo, there's no need to run a line into both channels on the DVX. Plug into Input 2 and set both audio channels to record Input 2.
