really noisy audio, probably an easy solution

I'm using an apogee duet for my audio, and whenever final cut pro opens up, it makes all my sound have a lot of grain and hiss on it, for no reason, because the sound it actually clear. and it's not just in final cut pro, it does it in itunes, safari, and guitar rig.

any ideas?
