Really lousy performance

I've got a 2.66ghz core2duo 17inch MBP, 4 GB ram and the 9400M graphics and I can't figure out why the performance in FCPX is so crap!
I could edit EX1 footage just fine in FCP 6 and that's a 32bit app which I'm not even sure takes advantage of my multicore cpu or my graphics chip.

FCP X is more dependent on your GPU now, and what you have simply isn't going to handle that footage all that well.

Try using optimized media, or proxies, and/or setting your FCP X prefs to "Better Performance".

I assume all of your stuff is on an external FW800 drive also. Don't run it off the internal drive, that will slow you down, too.

32 bit systems don't stress a computer's resources nearly as much as 64 bit systems do.
