Really like the way Ninja directs music videos: Die Antwoord

One of my favorite bands not just because of the music but also the videos.

Here's Cookie Thumper from Die Antwoord:

Nice break down of the history of Ninja and Die Antwoord:

I also like their stuff. I am not the biggest fan of their music, but by gum their videos are outstanding and very original.

That's what makes Die Antwoord so interesting. They aren't just musicians, they're visual artists. Normally you see a band and a director makes the video. Die Antwoord does the whole thing from start to finish.

Until now I had only heard of Die Antwoord.

Definitely some interesting videos. Although, after looking up some of their stuff on Youtube I don't think they've topped Chris Cunningham's Aphex Twin vids.

The Chris Cunningham videos are amazing in a different way. He's an innovative creative director for sure. But Die Antwoord has created an entire vibe with their Zef fresh flow.

I'm seeing amazing art direction, cinematography, etc in videos like Fatty Boom Boom. Really, really cool. But Ninja can't be in front of the camera and behind it at the same time. You can't discount the talents of the production crew & post involved with shooting and editing these videos. thanks for sharing Gillvane, I'm hooked!

They have a talented crew working with them and they collaborate with other artists, but if you look at behind the scenes footage Ninja is actually doing some of the graffiti in the background before the shoot and he and Yolandi are in charge of the art direction to a large degree. For example in Fatty Boom Boom Ninja designed the white outfit the drummer is wearing, drew on it, and picked out the words that would be on the costume.
