Really Annoying Transitions

I have been using Premiere for years now. I started with Premiere 6.01, then 6.5. Now I'm using Premiere Pro 1.5.

From all these years of using Premiere, right up to Premiere Pro, I found something about this s/w that is very, very frustrating.

When I add video transitions, or audio transitions, more than 50% of the time, when I apply those transitions, they don't work when I preview them. For example, when I apply a cross fade effect in between clips & preview it, sometimes the cross fade effect previews properly. At most other times, it doesn't. Also, at certain places in the timeline, the same effect works, but at other parts in the timeline, it fails to preview properly.

I am really getting frustrated because most of the time the transition I want to use can't preview properly. So I've to substitute it with another transition that may not be so desirable. Why can't all the transitions work properly all of the time? More often than not, those damn transitions just don't preview properly, or are not applied properly.

Have most of you experienced this & can anything be done to reduce this transition "errors"? Is it due to a poorly coded NLE by Adobe?

Thanks.

Andrew

I never found one that did not work.

Are you rendering them before previewing? ie Enter Key with the work area covered by the "work area bar"

Thanks, but I thought that the newer versions of Premiere like Premiere Pro 1.5 allows the user to preview the transition in realtime without having to render it first. I found that some transitions could preview in realtime, while others could not, even if the same transition was used somewhere else in the same timeline.

Many of my transitions preview in realtime (even if there is a red bar displayed). Then it is usually only a two or three second process to render them.

I mostly use Cross DSisolves anyway.

Historical Note: An early version of Premiere used to be able to preview transitions by scrubbing and holding down the ALT key.
