REALITY TV? What's gonna happen?

Okay, here's the scene I'm shooting --- a small apartment,
a waft of cigarette smoke lingers about, a tv set is on, illuminating the
room AND our hero, who is asleep in the La-Z-Boy in front of said TV.
And it's a dark apartment -- 'cause it's NIGHT.

Now that you have the setup----tell me, what's it going to look like
(on my killer DVX100) if I let the television set BE the light source?

I've seen the glow from my 27 inch Sony light up a whole room in the middle of the night, but I was wondering...how is the camera going to react?

Thots?

I wouldnt do it using just the tv. I'd fake it with another light source (with flicker control).

or hook up an lcd projector to a vcr and run the cable through that aimed at the room. Set the lens way out of focus though or you'll have sharp tv shows plastered all over the room... Same tv "light"... only much, much brighter

I would use a tungsten white balance. Most television monitors are balanced around 6500 kelvin but we view them in a room lit by tungsten lights (3200k) so the light emanating from the monitor appears blue. Next time you are walking at night look at the windows (not in them, sicko ;-) ) if a television is on the whole room glows a flickering blue.
