Sorry in advance if I posted this in the wrong place. I am pretty sure I am right, but maybe there is somewhere else that this may fit in better.
I'm sure a lot of people have had this idea, and that I am not the first to post about it. I'm a college student right now, and I think this would be neat.
I was thinking of the idea of making a reality TV show... streaming in real time to the internet. Like, LITERALLY reality TV.
I think it would be cool to basically have a camera and film my life. Everything I do would be on camera (except being in the bathroom haha) and it would be streamed to the internet in real time. Totally unscripted and real.
To gain viewers, I would advertise my show through word of mouth and through facebook (things spread like viruses there, pardon the pun).
I think an interesting part of the show would involve viewer participation. It would be neat to somehow buy a prepaid phone, post the number on the website that hosts my show, and have viewers text me in real time to comment on the decisions I am making (such as my choice of breakfast cereal, how I am handling an argument with a friend, etc.). This, I think, would attract viewers.
I believe this would be a cool concept because:
1. It involves REAL people. Not celebrities, not TV personalities, not actors. Real people doing real things.
2. It could, potentially, appeal to a wide variety of people. People studying sleeping habits or eating habits could tune in and see how I (and those I am with) actually eat and sleep. People looking for real-world examples of relationships between people and behavior studies could see how we react with each other.
3. It involves viewer participation. This part of the show would be neat because people could actually make comments on (and potentially help me with) situations that occur in my life. That would be a pretty sweet way to attract people.
Obviously the coolest way to do this would be to have a contact-lens camera. But since those are not an option at the moment, I would settle for a reeaaaally tiny camera that I would somehow attach to my person every day.
So, this is also obviously just a concept. But I do have some questions about it:
What would I need to stream my show to the internet?
How much would this cost, if it were lowscale (say 200 viewers?)
What are some other ways to keep the show interesting? I have thought about doing something like hosting polls on the website that ask questions like "Out of these 3 choices, what should I eat for dinner tonight?" or "Of these movies, which should I go see with my friends this weekend?" Having viewers participate in that stuff, I think, would be neat. But are there other ways to expand this?
Thanks for all of your help!
