realistic gun play

Hey guys,

I just bought several Airsoft spring action rifles and pistols. I will be giving them some serious detaling as soon as I get them, so as far as looking real on camera, not a big concern. However, since they provide no real kick, I'm wondering how to make it look like they are, or is this going to wind up being totally up to the actors. Additionally, muzzle flash and proper sound? Ejected casings? What are the best post production ways to accomplish? This also leads to the question of realistic bullet hits on characters. How can I go about pulling this off?

A full metal gas blowback will normally have realistic weight and it will have the actual markings of the real gun it is modeled after. It will also have the "kick" you are looking for. For proper sound, record sound of a gun around the same size firing (it doesn't have to be the actual gun...Not many people will notice). Muzzle flashes will most likely have to be added in post. Same goes for ejected casings (I'm not too sure how to do these though). As for bullet hits, you can make something out of an air compressor to fit your needs or you can check out this site.

A good site to check out is http://www.modelguns.co.uk/ legal replica blank flying guns. Again i say LEGAL in the UK. There a little more exspensive than BB guns. Also you can fire them and not have any projectiles coming out so perfect for close action stunts... Though of course be cearfull.

And remember never take them out in public.

Anyway. You load in the brass rounds each one loaded with a cap. And you fire. The gun is a real full metel replica and the rounds as real as you can legaly get. You get the blow back some smoke and a real gun jolt. Sadly no mussle flash. I might work on ways to make real mussle flashes. But by all means do them in post its easyer. And you have more control on the effect.

The brass shells are totaly reusable. But once the cap is fired you need to replace it :)

So plan your action to the letter. And remeber how many shots you fire. So you know where to find the brass cases on the floor for reuse. There a couple fo quid each so if you just fire and loose them youll be making a heafty bill...
