real time render free problems

hello everyone i am using a g5 with dual 2.0ghz processor and a gig and a half of ram with final cut pro hd and am trying to capture 24pa footage into a 24fps timeline and i was wondering what setting would reneder the best results as well as the best real time results, i am use to editing in premiere pro with a canpus card 30fps andam not use to any rendering for the most part but fcp has me render anytime i import footage and anytime i make a change to the footage. also i have a 1.67ghz powerbook that i would like to do some editing on, what setting should i have there and what should i expect realistically interms of speed and performance? thank u very much.

You shouldn't need to re-render unless your footage and sound doesn't match your sequence.
If you bring in sound at 44k but sequence is set for 48k then it will need to be re-rendered.
Is this 24p or 24pa? That will affect the way you capture. Your sequence should be set to 23.98 (if you want '24fps')
