real-time encoder????

Our Mac just died. We had a card on it that is no longer made called:

Wired's MediaPress MPEG-2/DVD real-time encoder

We would hook up to a digi deck or betacam Sp deck and via component or SDI, it would create Mpeg 1 and Mpeg 2 files in real time. We would then pop the Mpeg 2 file into DVD studio pro and instantly burn a DVD disc (no encoding required).

We really miss this card for our mac. We just bought a new mac (the latest and greatest). Any other real time encoders available out there (not software based)?

Thanks!

A few options:
-Digital Rapids Stream Z HD
-Telestream's Pipeline
- Viewcast's Osprey
- Sony MPEG-2 encoder

Note - encoding and authoring are typically seperate steps. With the exception of the cheap off the shelf DVD recorders and Pioneers LX-1 (discontinued) I'm unaware of any product that will instantly burn a DVD disc. At the very least you need instructions regarding first play.

I seem to remember there being some Combo DVD-Burner/VHS decks that had firewire input that would accept a DV input from a PC, as well as SVIDEO out. That would be encoded into a DVD in real time.

Software 2-pass encoding will always look the best, but for those of us on a time crunch, its an amazing time saver.

We have a MATROX DTV realtime encoder card.
It was over $12000 back then and still outperforms any software I ever saw (quality wise),
no mater how many passes.

I whis I coud find a software encoder with the same quality, cause with modern CPUs the software does it in double realtime or even faster.

I tryed almost any software out there but they can´t hold a candle to the Matrox.
