*real* graphic EQ in FCP?

That is why I said "from a post sound perspective". And FCP doesn't have track inserts so you couldn't do that now even with a GUI.

But Your point is it should be there and mine is pretty much the same. IF your going to have plugins they should have decent GUI.

My comment is not so much outlawing beer because some folks will get drunk and drive but more like you need a license to be a contractor but any idiot can trash their tracks. I'm not sure it's really in the interest of everyone to put powerful tools in the hands of people who don't know how to use them. I could probably argue the other side also but I recently started teaching sound post and the depth of the lack of knowledge is stunning. People have been taught to slap NR on tracks and they don't have any idea what an EQ is. And the problem is they are truly trashing their films. In their case it would be a LOT better if they didn't have the option.

But it all depends on your situation.

BTW you don't really have to go through all of that to use STP. Just "send to". After that the conform works surprisingly well. When you're done you output a stereo track to FCP or go straight to DVD from STP. I know you don't want to take the time, but that is a compromise of a more serious nature than just the lack of a GUI. FCP has a LOT of drawbacks as a sound app. I haven't found the shipping version of STP particularly buggy but?

You want a different workflow. I can feel your pain but not sure it's going to happen. As it is doing much of anything audio in FCP is "fighting the machine". Numerous songs from my youth pop to mind, but that is a different story.

I wouldn't worry about them abandoning the Pro Apps, they are money makers. Though apple can be fickle so?

You're right. I take audio production knowledge for granted sometimes. I have been recording stuff since I was 6 yrs old, and unconsciously I wrongly think others are as fascinated by it as I am. Maybe I'll give STP another go on smaller projects. It's on a later version than when I experienced the bugs. It's bad news when the client reports back an audio glitch when you thought you were done with the project.

And yes I have complained to Apple about the GUI thing, but I don't expect anything really. It's like voting, in that a voting machine with no paper trail is most likely rigged and my vote means nothing, but I still vote on the outside chance that I'm wrong. Audiowise, I was spoiled by Vegas. It was soooooo sweet, especially when you want to edit a video like this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EsBfj6khrG4

The guy took youtube vids and time stretched & looped clips in Vegas to create a new song. Check his channel for more like it. In Vegas you can stretch a video clip to play slow while preserving the pitch of the audio. That is huge to me. I can use "preserve pitch" even for straight video where you may want to slow something just a tad so it's not noticed, but the lower pitch gives it away. That is something that you can't emulate even going outside of FCP without doing some math. It's not that I love Vegas so much. I thought the rendering times were horrendous. There are just some features out there that I want in my favorite NLE - FCP. If Vegas had a mac version I would consider adding it to my arsenal. On another note I am very happy that Steinberg Wavelab finally came out with a Mac version! I think it's the best audio editor out there, and a great way to author CDs.

OK enough rambling. Cheers.
