Real 3D at home?

So after seeing Avatar, I'm wondering how the bluray/dvd releases will look. How are they going to present the 3D at home? With the crappy red/green glasses? Is there any way that people will be able to see the movie in 3D just as good as in the theater?

As for 3D at home in general, are there any televisions out there that can show 3D of similar quality to the 3D seen in theaters? I understand that BD players and the PS3 will eventually get an upgrade/ firmware update to be able to play 3D, but what other technology will need to be purchased in order to actually view it?

I find 3D technology extremely interesting. I'd love to hear some opinions about this and expertise on the subject.

They just last week finished the specs for 3D over blu-ray. In most iterations It will involve alternating frames and lcd shutter glasses. You'll just need a display with a high enough refresh rate and an HDMI port. In theory it will look better, as even with Avatar I could occasionally see ghosting on high contrast edges, the image from one eye leaking into the other. With shutter glasses that is impossible.

Any links to televisions that would be able to handle this? I'd like the see anything from most affordable to best in terms of quality etc.

I've been the client on a 3D shoot all week with the Silicon Imaging SI-3D rid and viewing on a small 22" display is amazing. They cost around $2500 (the display)but the price is coming down really fast. I've learned a lot and will add it to my 2x 5D rig I've been working on. After seeing the pro setup I think it will be very do-able with a couple of 5D's and the right software and display.

I think Samsung makes a couple Plasmas but they aren't 1080p. Most are DLP sets. I reccommend one with an LED light source, not a bulb and color wheel. The LED lasts forever, unlike the bulb which can burn out.

Panasonic has a television that is 3d and works well. I've been to many test showings that show off the technology and it is the very similar if not the same technology as what I saw in Avatar. Heck i've seen the Avatar trailer on one of the panasonic tv's. Looks just as good minus the theater and sound system.

Do you know which one that is? I'm just blown away by the 3D in Avatar. I feel like I just discovered dinosaurs or something.
