ready to shop

Just polished the fifth draft or so of my third feature length screenplay. It's been a long haul. But now that I've got three to work with (a comedy, a thriller, and a thriller-comedy) I'm ready to exchange my writers cap for my salesman briefcase.

As I have no agent I want to pitch directly to production companies. Could somebody here point me to the best reference resources for this kind of shopping around? I'm thinking of guides to production companies, producers, etc. I know there's been posts on this but I can't seem to find them.

Also would be interested to hear from others who have taken this route -- which as we all know is fraught with hardship and peril.

Call Jerry Bruckheimer, 310-664-6260.

Tell 'em Sad Max sent you.

I called and he said Michael Bay wants my first born child as a sacrifice.

In all seriousness, look up the "Hollywood creative directory" and send in your script with a query letter to companies, agents, producers, etc. 95% will most likely throw it in the trash, so buy lots of paper. You really need to depend on that 5% that will actually read it.

I got all this info from a book, so don't take my word for it. - Here's the site for the book with good info: http://theworkingscreenwriter.com/

Not sure if I'm worthy enough to stalk James Cameron yet. But I'll put it on my to-do list.

I actually work about two and a half blocks away. Now if only I could master learning by osmosis.

Be careful, he might yell at you!

Here's a concept-- someone invent a pay to call phone line, you know, like the 911 calls, but for writers. Fifty cents a minute and you get to pitch your screenplay, and the person at the other end is sympathetic, tells you what a great concept you have, urges you on to tell more about your story, plot, character, etc. LOL. Call it Pay-for-Pitch.

It's kind of sad how many people would actually call those numbers for their "one shot".
