Reading and Setting Levels on the DVX

Hi all,
By way of background, I'm new to the DVX and very new to audio issues. I've purchased an Oktava which I'm using to conduct interviews in a quiet indoor environment.

What I'm wondering is what is the best way to read and set audio levels on the DVX? The onscreen indicators don't seem to have any measure - so if I want the audio to be peaking around -6dB I'm not sure how to make that happen.

Any tips and tricks that you've worked out over the years would be appreciated.

Thanks,

James.

The onscreen indicators don't clearly label themselves, but they are pretty accurate measures. The vertical line (transition point from white to red) is at -12dB. Each dot represents 2dB of volume, so there are six red dots (representing 12db) before you clip at 0dB.

So if you want peaking at -6dB, you want peaking at about 3 dots of red.
