"Reactivate" batteries

My 2 DVXuser batteries have both lost it in the last few weeks. They are almost 2 years old and although charging as normal (3-4 hours) they never show the faull load and go empty in about 20-40 minutes.
Is there anything to repower them? Or is it time to get a new set ?

Hi Alpi,

You might try rejuvenating them, discharging them fully several times if necessary and then recharging them. With proper care, the lithium batteries should last up to 600-1,000 charges. But if either they are stored in a hot location or they aren't discharged/recharged from time to time (although more a NiCad problem), the battery life will decrease - a good idea to have extra batteries and swap them back and forth between each shoot.

Good luck, Michael

Yeah, these two were not used for over 2 months in summer. Since then they had this drop-off. I have 3 other batteries (1 Pana and 2 no-name) which I used and left the DVXusers out of the bag which was apparently a bad idea.
thanks for your advice guys.

Time to get a new set. Lithium batteries have a limited number of charge/discharge cycles they can go through.

This is a bit of misinformation. While cycles can reduce battery life, lithium ion batteries are usually limited by age, storage temperature, and charge while in storage.

Good information in your FAQ, adolgin. One of my original Panasonic batteries died a month ago. The capacity did not deterioate gradually, but disappeared suddenly alltogether. It's not even two years old and hasn't been used excessivly. So I'm unhappy to hear that it can't be reactivated.
The only generic battery that I have still works fine and cost about one third of that original battery, so I guess I will only buy generics from now on. If one of those fails I at least know I didn't pay extra high no-failure-price.

I recently bought four generic 5400 MAh batteries from DigitalPowerPro on eBay for $24 each including shipping. They work fine so far.

My personal issue with Ebay batteries is that their actual capacity is about 30%-50% less than their sticker claims. Also, there is no consistency between samples, some are better, some are DOA. The brand name ones deliver exactly what they are rated for, and also their contacts are making reliable connection, unlike some generics. On the other hand, if this is not important to you, you can buy a lot of them for $24 ea and throw away the bad ones.
