Re-introducing Windows Vista

What is Windows Vista?

Wasn't that a mac?

Yes, the images on the screen are OSX on a mac. The audio is Bill Gates describing Vistas "new" features. Do the math and you soon realize Microsoft has pulled another rip off of Apple.

As an ex-microsoftie these are my thoughts:
1. It's bloat-ware in every sense of the word. There is so much that Vista requires from hardware that a succesful upgrade of an existing machine with XP that will give you all the Vista features will not be easy. You'll be better of getting a new PC designed for Vista or stick with XP.
2. Seasoned sceptics such as myself won't touch it till sp1 and then I'll buy a new PC.
3. The ship date has been slipping for years and I would only give 50/50 odds it ships in 06.

Yeah, but at the same time, some of the "new" features in Tiger weren't exactly revolutionary for XP users, either. It's how one-upmanship works.

Like I've always said, I wish there were more than two viable choices (sorry, Linux guys) -- constant competition brings constant innovation, and it would happen a lot more quickly if there were more players in the game.

My understanding was that they were trying a new style of programming with longhorn and it blew up badly so they scrapped and started over with this vista thing. Not planning on touching it if I can get away with it. Every time they do anything you loose a bit more of your privacy, and vista may just be the final nail.

BTW microsoft owns 7-10% of apple.

Agree - If there were 3 or 4 different O/S out there that were cross compatible the competition to be best [and get the sales] would bring out much better products - They would crawl all over each other to have the fastest and most secure platform. Just look at game players.
