There is no DVX100a, it's all a hoax, an expensive piece of smoke and mirrors.........

You come to the DVXuser forum.....and ask this................. :P

Re: dvx100a - to buy or not to buy

If you want a camera to show off your acting talent, and to screw around then I would say a DVX is not the way to go.

You don't need a great camera to show off acting talent. And you certainly don't need it if your just screwing around w/ your buddies. It's a huge investment, there's plenty of other great cameras out there for a lot less money that will completely suit your needs.

Perhaps that's not what you wanted to hear, just my humble opinion.

Re: dvx100a - to buy or not to buy

There are people who will shoot your acting reel for far less than the price of a new DVX. Save the cash, hire a pro. Seriously look into hiring some people to shoot your short.

The DVC60 is a good camera, but of course it doesn't shoot 24P.

You could look for a used 100 or 100A.

Panasonic also has some good consumer 3-chip cams for alot less that are apparently pretty good

Re: dvx100a - to buy or not to buy

I think that there's plenty of camera's that you could start out with that would be far cheaper than the dvx. you could try a gl2 or a more inexpensive model from panisonic. there' s quite a few options. You should buy a cheap cam at best buy, learn the camera angles, see if you like what your doing, the cheap cam's can give a nice image, and are perfect for practice. then if you think it's what you want. buy the dvx.

Well schmolze.....hmm.....

Let's see, you live in LA for a year and a half, deciding to be an "actor", and discover to your amazement.....with no experience.....it's bloody hard work, hmm.....

So you decide "i could go back east, buy a camera, write a script, and do the **** for myself".....while "living rent free in a supportive environment [parents]", hmm.....

Then "it's hard for me to want anyone but myself to be in charge of the final outcome".....hmm.....

I think the general concensus is, a DVX100 would be wasted on you.
i don't understand why everyone is trying to discourage me from buying the dvx100a, when it's so clearly superior...

are anyone else's uses for it more justified than my own?
Nobody is doing that.  Everyone is trying to tailor their answers to fit what you said your needs were, in a darn sincere good-faith effort to help you out, save you some cash, get you going on what you said you wanted to do . . . especially when you said you don't "see" the film look in the DVX, i.e., the 24p doesn't mean anything to you.  These are all GOOD answers.

No reason to get snippy when everyone's just doing what you asked them to do.
