re-capturing 24PA footage

OK....
So months ago I captured all of my 24PA DVC Pro 50 footage the wrong way (at 23.98 using advance pulldown removal.) The footage looked ok - just when characters moved too quickly these weird horizontal lines would appear - i thought it was because I compressed the footage at 50% using DVC PRo 50 compression. Now I'm told that it is this look is called "stepping/shuffling" and it's because i'm dropping frames - and now I've read that I should have captured my footage at 29.97....

Anyway - now my 95 minute movie is completed and I want to re-capture the footage the right way so i can color correct, make dvds, and send it out to festivals. This weekend I'm renting this very expensive deck to re-capture the footage and i want to so it the right way.

Has anyone had this experience? Should I capture at 29.97? Will the 100% resolution help with this problem? Also - when making quicktimes/DVDs what is the best compression to use???

Any comments/help would be appreciated.

hmmm....

hmmm....

those are the settings i used the first time i captured footage... if these are correct why is my footage jittery when people move quickly? is this a compression issue?

Step through frame by frame, especially in action scenes. See if you see lines there. If so then there was a problem with pulldown removal.
Note that at 24 fps you may experience more strobing than typical video. This isn't an error but just the fact you aren't seeing as many frames per second. Should appear the same as a feature film.
Also note that if you playback you may see video tearing on a computer monitor. One frame is displayed while the next is being 1/2 displayed. This will give the illusion of a split image.
If you're outputting to firewire and on to video if your computer isn't fast enough it may not playback with 3:2 pulldown added. (Check playback prefs)

there are definitely horizontal lines in the frame when i look at it frame by frame. There isn't much tearing in the computer monitor - it actually looks worse after i export the quicktime and make a dvd.

Soudns like there was a problem with pulldown removal if you're seeing every other line.
FCP got confused for some reason or it was shot 24p and not 24pa.
