Re: 1500 NITS vs 400 NITS

Re: 1500 NITS vs 400 NITS

I recently bought the Small HD High Bright and did a quick unscientific test today. And holy moly I can actually shoot in direct sunlight now without the need for a sunhood or viewfinder!

1500 NITS MAKES A BIG DIFFERENCE!

Yes, it's a huge difference, but then it costs 5 times more than the iKan VH7i monitor.

I own a Marshall V-LCD70MD that features 800 Nit brightness, but costs less than 1/3 the price of the Small HD High Brightness monitor.

How do you find the 800 NITS in direct sunlight? I thought of buying the V-LCD71MD because it uses 10w of power (vs 24w of the HB) and is higher resolution at 1920 x 1080 but is only 700 NITS. Not sure how 700 NITS (or ~800 NITS) performs in direct sunlight.

What are your experiences and thoughts?

I still use a shade with it ( I think the 1500 Nit brightness level is probably the minimum you want to use outside with no shade ), but with the 800 Nit illumination you don't have to hold your face close to the shade to see all the detail. ( this was my main reason for buying this monitor ) I can usually run all day with 2-3 generic Sony F970 batteries, so battery power is relatively cheap.
