RC Heli Crashes on Manhattan Street (Video)

Brainless rookie takes off from his high-rise terrace, smashes into several buildings 300-400 feet high, then crashes onto the sidewalk, narrowly missing a businessman, who pulls the card from the wreckage.

The video (which starts with a self-portrait of the pilot) is awesome, gorgeous, largely jello-free... and just plain stupid.

Video ends before the crash.

This video doesn't help give multicopters a good name, it's been a bad month for news. Shame really as they can be really great tools.

I've been away from this forum for months, in part as I'm building and flying multicopters so I'm just getting lots of practice in.

People like this keep giving the entire industry a bad name and it's getting old. Even the self portrait at the beginning has him looking the part of a brainless rookie, casually launching an aircraft with no consideration for the safety of flying over people and cars. They aren't toys, I don't know why so many people aren't seeing that.

well i could go to an open field to master the controls of flying the quadcopter in a relatively safe and obstacle free environment

--or--

i could launch it off a terrace hundreds of feet in the air while surrounded by skyscrapers in the most populous city in america despite having no flying experience whatsoever.

tough call.

What an idiot! Soon these awesome productions tools are going to be banned by every city in the country for safety reasons or you will have to pay to get a permit and a license to fly remote camera drones in public.

What in the world were they hoping to accomplish? Why not just crumple up 20 hundred dollar bills & throw them off the terrace & see what happens!

It is already banned by the FAA.

[edit] I can't find anything from the FAA that confirms this; just many stories from forums that say it is banned.

I honestly think he made this video with the intent to crash and try to have a viral video. It makes no sense to do this. I am impressed with the drone. That thing smack the building around four times before it crashed.
