Raylight Ultra & Magic Bullet freezing renders

I have been working with DV Film Raylight & Sony Vegas 8 & Magic Bullet Quick Looks for 2 years now with no problems. When I upgraded to Raylight Ultra, my problems started. I tried to render a project with Magic Bullet Quick Looks applied to 3 video tracks. For some reason, my renders kept hanging. Sometimes around 27% other times around 68%. I disabled Magic Bullet, and now the project renders without a problem.

HVX200 720/24pn footage.
15-20 Vegas Factory Preset Transitions
3 Channels with Magic Bullet Quick Looks presets applied

I attempted to render a WMV 1280x720x24p file and then an AVI 1280x720x24p Uncompressed File. Both Failed.

Other notes. AMD Quad Core, Windows XP 32, 4 gigs Memory

I removed Magic Bullet Quick Looks from the project all together. i bought the Vasst Reel Pak 4, spent 2 hours re color correcting the project. It rendered in half the time, no problems. Sometimes good things come out of these problems. I don't know what the deal is with MBQL. It's an insane resource hog.

It's true about MB but next time you have a problem like that I would suggest 1)make sure you have the latest version of Ultra (now at 1.2.2) because earlier versions did chew up memory. 2) in Vegas preferences set, dynamic ram preview cache size to 0, max rendering threads to 1. 3) Also turn off the general preference that closes media files when the vegas window loses focus 4) remove unused clips from your project if you have a lot of them, or cut and paste your entire timeline into an empty project then save it and restart.

I updated to Raylight 1.2.2, and then I made all of the changes you suggested. It seems like it's rendering much faster, but now I get a new error when I open up my project.

"the file 0015A8.mxf is being read by a general purpose plug-in that may have limitations."

"You can click the Register button to register a plug-in that does not have these limitations."

When I click register, the box goes away, but I think it's kind of a weird error. Do I need to uninstall and reinstall Vegas, so that it can find the new version of Raylight? I am currently running Vegas 8.0c

I'm having a bit of the same problem. I also have Ultra 1.2.2 and MBL 1.1, but in the sense that it is rendering and turns into colored noise about 5% into the render and just hangs. I was rendering an hour long DV .avi. Renders fine on short clips though. I'm wondering why its hanging. I have a i7 980X and 6gb RAM with a Asus HD5830 1gb vid card.

Raylight Ultra is disappointing ...

I made some changes that the DVFilm guy suggested. It renders better on shorter files, but it seems incredibly unstable. I'm going to wait for a new version of Raylight to come out, or I'm gonna go back to my old old version. This upgrade has been very disappointing.

Those are not error messages that are generated by Raylight. BTW Raylight is not a "general purpose plug-in" but what Sony calls a "File IO Plug-in"

Our support team has reports of problems between MBL and Ultra and we are investigating. They both grab a fair amount of memory when you start up Vegas and begin rendering.

This webpage (which is for DVFilm Epic, our DSLR plugin, not Ultra, but may still apply) describes our recommendations for settings for Vegas 9, and some of those may work for Vegas 8 as well: http://www.dvfilm.com/epic/EpicTutorial1.1.htm (scroll down to middle of page)

Also you might look at the ReelPak's from VASST as a faster, less memory intensive alternative to MB. See http://www.vasst.com
