Raylight for Mac 3

Does this programm besides native use of MXF files in FCS also an improvement of the image quality since the native MXF files are used?

No it's the same quality as using Log and Transfer files.

To clarify, with P2 files and FCP 7, Log and Transfer re-wraps the MXF files in quicktime format without recompression. Raylight does not re-wrap the files, but it creates link files which point to the original data in the MXF file, which is a much quicker process. In both cases you end up editing with non-recompressed video, the quality is the same.

The advantages to Raylight for Mac are 1) no waiting for Log & Transfer, 2) no drive space needed for Log and Transfer files, 3) Clips can be named and grouped by Metadata and 4) Metadata in the bin.

Thanks for your explanation. Ok you are an expert so I have another question. If I duiring a shoot from clip to clip change the parameters within "one" schenfile setting, can I trace back all the settings of the scenefile of each induvidual clip or do I have to write each change down on paper for each clip?

Another question I have is if it is possible in FCS to export a finished project in something other than a mov-file ??

write it down because scene file settings are not in the metadata

Raylight can convert QT to P2 (MXF files) see Raylight for Mac documentation. For other
formats like DVD check FCS documentation

Wanted to export some footage back to a P2 card so found Raylight for Mac. Sounded simple in their pitch. 2 days, hours worth of effort, dozen of setting changes and still no use-able footage back on my P2 card. Started with DVCpro50 60i... have DVCpro50 60i quicktimes cant make a p2 card.
Has anyone ever had success with this product creating P2 cards with footage of any format? If so please share your secret.

Thanks

As an addition to my previous post... Raylight as I have been able to use it exports MXF's that are only usable with Raylight. Those MXF's can be re-imported to FCP, NONE of the rewrites to P2 card so far have been viewable in P2CMS or on a P2 camera (HPX2000 or 170).

So the claim of re-writing to P2 card is half true... you can do it... just not actually view it.
