Ray Guns, Laser blasts

Hey, I'm trying to come up with some good compositions for a laser blast. Something Star Wars like or even District 9. I have all the elements in my head and my composite structure, but I'm wondering if anyone else has already done something really impressive or different.

Does anyone have any good tutorials or footage. I'd love to see some

Yeah, I'm sure I can use their muzzle tutorial, or if I wanted a lightsaber I'd use that too.

Maybe I'll just put something together and figure it out..

Or look at some of the tracer fire tutorials and just tune the length of the tracer and color.
