RAW quality

Hi Folks

Would anyone mind explaining ; what is "RAW" when assocoated with "Image Quality" - it's in the spec's for the Panasonic G Series of cameras for example :

Image Quality - RAW, RAW+Fine, RAW+standard, RAW

I quite often find I need a bit of "analogue" input to get me going rather that just deploying my second brain through the keyboard.

The "digital negative" is a great descriptor; at least now I now the "photsites" transmit the light in monochrome form! omg
Another great descriptor is "a film waiting to be developed"

I read this staight away as being like the non-destructve editing of .wav files in my music studio - at your choice, you are only ever working on a copy, the original remains untouched.


Is it me or is there something wrong with the forum software? I'm having to type a url in by hand as when I copy them between BBCode they endup at the top of the post - same with the insert link button? The text keeps defaulting to bold as well?

Raw files are then a great thing to have for stills and I took a read here about the development of Raw film:

Hey, that was a good read; open DNG formats (Adobe and Cinema) making workflows easier across lots of companies in the complex world of film.......

I've just got a Lumix G6 which takes Raw stlls 4608 x 2592 @ 16:9, what sort of camera are you using to film in Raw?

I recently got a new Digital Bolex 16mm/S16mm camera. www.digitalbolex.com A good low cost entry level option is the the Black Magic BMPCC, currently on sale until sometime in August for $495. Uses M4/3 lenses like your Lumix.
 
wow, the BMPCC looks funny with the ARRI 18-80 lense attatched......camera's really have got small ! I like the simplicity- technology can "well" be got sick of (very poor grammar there... ) if you're trying to actually do some music. The G6 will give me plenty of fun and work for the time being; I was taking Raw stills in a place called Deganwy yesterday in clear sunlght, mid afternoon, so today I got myself a brolly for a £oond from a charity shop to keep the camera cool. It performed very well though.

I'm just starting to notice abberations and get a bit "piccy" so it looks like the "never-ending-story " of film gear is just about to begin.. :)
